How is coaching different than therapy?

Coaching, therapy, and mentoring can all be valuable, but they serve different purposes.

Therapy often focuses on healing, mental health, and understanding or working through experiences from the past. Mentoring typically involves someone with expertise in a particular area sharing their knowledge and guidance.

Coaching is more about you and where you want to go. We can certainly explore the past when it's relevant, but our focus is on understanding what's happening for you now, clarifying what you want, and figuring out how to move forward.

I won't tell you what you should do or give you a prescribed path. I'll ask questions, reflect what I'm hearing, help you see things from different perspectives, and support you in discovering your own answers.

And sometimes coaching and therapy can complement each other beautifully. If what you're bringing to coaching would be better supported by a therapist or another professional, I'll always be honest about that.

What happens in a coaching session?

I guide the conversation in a way that helps us both understand what's really going on for you. You'll do most of the talking while I actively listen, reflect back what I'm hearing, and ask questions designed to help uncover what's beneath the surface.

Think of it as a warm, supportive conversation with a friend—but the whole hour is about you. I'll help you notice patterns, clarify what you want, and discover ways to move forward.

My hope is that you'll leave feeling heard, understood, supported, and energized to keep moving toward your best life.
